Situated close to the back entrance of the house, the room smelt like expired oat milk. Dense, and enclosed – with a gloomy foreboding lingering in the air, the room seemed ancient and uninviting. The mono-yellow wallpaper blotched with an unsaturated green design surrounded the four corners. The floorboards moaned and  creaked loudly with every step. An unused fireplace framed the picture of the room, sitting under a piece of history framed in a painting. Dust swarmed the mantle of the fireplace, as antique items sat patiently on it as sun shined through windows framing the mantle. A bed surrounded by bars as strong as a prison cell squatted at the far end of the room. The bedsheets could make you sneeze for hours as dust took up all the pillows. A coffee table stood lonelily in the middle of the room, on an antique, 1800’s carpet that emitted a mouldy odour. Scarring that looked like a world map marked the wooden table  covered with a  thin plain white cloth, which moved ever so slightly as the wind brushed through the window.
